This video covers the following objectives:
To review the basics of doing cross matching of blood prior to transfusions including:
1) review basics of what a cross match is,
2) importance of blood typing and how to do them,
3) pros and cons of manual cross match vs kits vs quick and dirty, and
4) how to do the different kinds of cross matches.
Yvonne is a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the state of California and obtained her Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) designation in Small Animal Internal Medicine (SAIM) in 2016. She is an author and a speaker at both local and international conferences, as well as a host of the Internal Medicine For Vet Techs Podcast.
She started working in a general practice in 2003. After seven years she decided to challenge herself and became a veterinary technology program instructor at Carrington College California.
Yvonne worked as an instructor for several years, as a vet tech program director for a year, and then found her way into a specialty hospital in 2012 where she gets the privilege of working with patients diagnosed with intricate diseases and helping them feel better.
Yvonne has presented on subjects related to SAIM at American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum in 2017, SAGE Small Animal Symposium in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and on VSPN Rounds in 2020.
